Name

The Prophets in The Hebrew Bible, Ancient Near East, and Today

Description

This third year course introduces the Israelite prophets of the Hebrew Bible in their historical contexts, solidifies the essential backdrop of the ancient Near East prophetic role (especially Mesopotamia) for understanding Israelite prophets, gives attention to literary and redactional developments within each prophetic book, and extracts major themes. These major themes are then brought into conversation with compelling and recent social issues, contemporary literature and music, to further explore themes of the prophets for today.
